Tigers News · Tigers Go To 2-1, Knock off Sabine 35-14

Daingerfield would travel to Sabine tonight to face the unbeaten Cardinals.  In the end, the Tigers would earn a hard fought 35-14 victory when the final buzzer sounded.

The Tigers would get on the board first with 5:20 remaining in the first quarter on a 43 yard touchdown run from Martez Allen on a 1st and 15 play.  Sophomore Jayden Wallace would run the ball in for the successful 2 point conversion to put the Tigers up 8-0.

Leading in the second quarter, 8-7, the Tigers would get on the board again, this time on a 6 yard run from junior Dee Lewis.  After another successful 2 point conversion attempt from Wallace, the Tigers would push their lead to 16-7 just over 4 minutes into the second quarter.  A little more than 2 minutes later, Zaylon Jeter would throw a strike to Coby Wright, who would take it 34 yards for another Tiger touchdown.  The 2 point attempt was no good, but it put the Tigers up 22-7 with 5:17 remaining in the first half.  Moments later, sophomore DD Rodgers would pick off a Cardinal pass, his first of two on the night, and rumble 37 yards for the score.  The PAT attempt from Amerie Stephens would hit off the upright and bounce out, leaving the Tigers up 28-7 at the half.

Leading in the fourth quarter, 28-14, the Tigers would put the touches on the night as Lewis would once again run for a touchdown, this time going 25 yards and breaking several tackles on the way to the end zone.  This time, Stephens would split the uprights to give her the successful PAT kick to put the Tigers up 35-14 with 3:25 remaining in the game.  That would be the final score, as the Tiger defense would hold strong again, forcing a Cardinal turnover on downs and allowing the Tigers to line up in victory formation to end the game.

This was the second ever meeting between the two on the football field and the second win for the Tigers in the series.  Daingerfield pushed their record to 2-1 on the young season and will now prepare for the always tough, and currently undefeated, Elysian Fields Yellowjackets.  For the Tigers, it will be homecoming week next Friday.  Great game tonight Tigers, we are proud of you and the Coaches.

***As a side note, please keep the Sabine defensive lineman, #70, in your thoughts and prayers as he injured his knee and was taken from the stadium via ambulance.
